Microsoft’s holding an event on October 6th, where the company is expected to unveil its next-gen Surface Pro tablet and at least two new Lumia smartphones.

A visitor tries out Microsoft Corp.’s Windows 10 operating system on the Surface 3 tablet device during a launch event in Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday, July 29, 2015. In order to do so, one can fairly say that Microsoft needs to bring out something truly revolutionary, if it wishes to go toe-to-toe with competitors such as Apple and Google.

It’s widely believed that Microsoft has been working on the still unofficial Surface Pro 4, but what can consumers reasonably expect the rumored device to feature?

Looking at a recent Band 2 leak, it would seem as though Microsoft has learned from past mistakes and have now designed this successor to be something that you would not mind wearing. The major reason for the Windows Phone failing to gain market share against its dominating competitors is the lack of applications.

Microsoft is now developing the next update for Windows 10, dubbed Threshold 2, which will introduce various new features and fixes.

The company is all set to re-work on their mobiles division, which wasn’t performing quite well for them. We haven’t heard anything new in the meantime, which means that the phone will come with a screen size of 5.7-inch, and it will be a QHD display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. It is also speculated to run on a 64-bit Intel chipset including 4GB RAM. As for the camera, a 20 megapixels PureView rear camera is expected, along with a 5 megapixels front snapper.

Now Apple has bought in all those things in its new iPad for an outrageous price, commentators are starting to wake up to the fact that the Surface is, and probably has been, rather good.

Microsoft has recently revamped its strategy for handset business and will launch smartphones for the high-end, business and entry-level segments, said industry sources, adding that the moves nevertheless may not spur as much growth as anticipated.
