New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 6.7 percent in August, increasing from 6.5 percent in July and 6.4 percent a year ago, despite adding jobs over the year. Florida’s workforce system, which includes the 24 regional workforce boards, reported more than 37,900 Floridians, including 2,174 veterans, were placed in jobs.



It said Indiasna’s labor force increased by 5,629 people last month, and weekly claims for unemployment insurance are at their lowest levels since 1994.

Merced County’s unemployment rate fell to less than double digits for the first time in eight years, the Employment Development Department reported Friday.

The increase in jobs last month came after a robust showing in June, although that figure was revised slightly down to 80,500. Rhode Island’s unemployment rate droppped by -1.8 percentage points and Michigan also had a significant -1.7 percentage point decline.

Overall, Weaver said Humboldt County unemployment has been holding steady.

The jobless rate last month was 6.1 percent statewide and 5.2 percent nationwide. West Virginia’s was the highest at 7.6 percent. Wholesale and retail trades added a combined 4,400 jobs. The national rate fell to 5.1 percent in August.

Napa County continues to have the fifth lowest unemployment rate for the state, the EDD said.

Although it is not getting any higher, the unemployment rate is at a standstill while the USA rate is steadily declining, now at 5.1%.

“The decline that we’ve seen in manufacturing is far more than just cyclical”, Pakko said.

The bay area is tops in the state in online job demand with 51,652 openings posted in August.

For the month, state monthly payrolls increased in 32 states and decreased in 18 states plus the District of Columbia.

Still, North Dakota, which has benefited from a boom in oil and gas drilling, is one of three states to lose jobs in the past year.
