T-Mobile’s Simple Choice postpaid subscribers who are out of the country for business or pleasure, have unlimited data, the ability to send texts at no extra-charge, and can make phone calls at 20 cents a minute from 145 countries globally.
With the expansion, the program now offers subscribers unlimited data and texting, plus calls for $0.20 a minute in 145 countries and destinations, including all of Europe and South America.
The new countries T-Mobile added include the Bahamas, Haiti, Monaco, Albania, Belarus, Bosnia, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia, Guernsey, Alderney, Jersey, Sark, the Isle of Man, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
Simple Global is actually a free feature included with T-Mobile’s Simple Choice plans. That means you can now take your T-Mobile iPhone abroad to anywhere in South America and Europe as well as many other destinations, and not pay any extra for data or texting while you’re there.
145 countries are now available for roaming with Simple Global, and T-Mobile says that covers about 90 percent of the destinations its customers visit, including the Bahamas, which it said is a particularly popular destination. That particular feature ensures that customers who travel to either Canada or Mexico won’t have to pay an extra penny for calls, texts, and data. As part of the expanded service, Sprint customers also receive up to 1GB of 3G data for free while traveling in Canada and Mexico.
In announcing the new countries, T-Mobile took the opportunity to bash its rival US carriers, criticizing Verizon for “jacking up their customers’ rates as soon as they step across a border”. That allotment is in addition to the data in a customer’s domestic data plan. According to RCR Wireless, last year U.S. businesses paid a mind blowing $7.3 billion to U.S. carriers for their employees’ wireless data roaming charges.
