The American Cancer Society created Making Strides Against Breast Cancer community walks in 1993 to build awareness and generate funds to fight the disease across the nation.

The 35W bridge in downtown Minneapolis will be bathed in bright pink lights, at dusk on Friday, September 18 to help call attention to Light The Night Pink.

The “Light the Way for a Cure” program will honor breast cancer survivors as well as offer informational booths, historical displays, refreshments and door prizes.

According to the American Cancer Society Cancer Facts & Figures 2015, an estimated 231,840 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and an estimated 40,290 will die from the disease this year.

“In the past 20 years we have taken care of hundreds of people from northern Iowa and southern Minnesota”, said Dr. Steven Allgood, medical director of the Mercy-Breast Center of North Iowa. That’s why FOX59 is proud to partner with the American Cancer Society for the Making Strides against Breast Cancer Walk.

Teams are forming for the 2015 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of North Texas scheduled for October 24 at the University of Texas at Arlington.

“This is why we all must come together to support Breast Cancer Now’s cutting-edge research, and this is a fun and simple way for everyone to get involved”.

A sketch of the plan includes a significant donation to “ABC” with consumer interactive touch points at the Gala Luncheon event on September 27th and the National Women’s Show Toronto next month, where Skechers footwear will be sold at the show with all proceeds going to after Breast Cancer.
