When Josh Dallas couldn’t reprise his Fandral role for Thor: The Dark World – because of a commitment to ABC’s Once Upon a Time – they asked Chuck alum Zachary Levi to take over the role.
For Levi, he had no idea if there is a Marvel role is waiting for him; however, he would not think twice should the studio tap him to play one.
Loki is a complex character, and if he did kill Odin to take his place on the throne, there really isn’t any coming back from that. I don’t know. It’d be a lot of fun but there’s also many other Marvel roles that I’d love to play one day.
“I had a very interesting talk with Kevin Feige early on about it all and he said, “Look, it doesn’t preclude you from playing another Marvel character”.
When pressed to clarify his comments on taking other roles, Levi claimed Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige himself told him taking on another Marvel role was still on the table. But he said, Look, I totally understand that, but don’t worry about it. I don’t know if there’s a right role, that comes along and they want me to play it, I’d love to.
Screenrant.com in a September 9 announcement said the next Thor movie, “Thor: Ragnarok“, will begin filming in summer 2016. Some felt it was overkill to have the same actor playing two different Marvel characters.
According to Cinema Blend, the character an actor is playing is not the query to one’s distinctiveness in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, but it is how it is explained.
We can only hope, this doesn’t mean we will never see his character again. One of those instances made sense story-wise while the other is merely a casting decision. However, in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Bettany became The Vision.
Zachary Levi smartly points out that the dual roles played by various Marvel actors thus far have been from separate studios. He would go onto play Daniel Sousa in Marvel’s Agent Carter.
More than likely, the reaction from fans in the event of a scenario like this playing out will depend on the specific actor and character.
We have a long way to go before some of the bigger Phase III entries of the Marvel Cinematic Universe hit the big screen, but that’s still close enough to begin talking about them.
If accurate, this isn’t the first time Feige has made similar comments.
