Jones got in a scrum with rookie wide receiver Amari Cooper, and in the back end of the incident, Jones ripped off Cooper’s helmet and proceeded to slam his head into that helmet.
Pacman Jones let his anger get the best of him, as he’s done so numerous times in the past, cheap-shotting Amari Cooper after another long play downfield later on in the game.
Despite those flags – which actually negated penalties, so no 15-yard punishment was meted – Jones stunningly was allowed to remain in the game, an eventual 33-13 Bengals win. And reports on Monday morning indicated the National Football League would not suspend Jones.
According to a source informed of the process, it is expected that Jones will be fined but not suspended.
Jones added: “Whatever you saw happen, that’s what happened”. It was just physical.
The Raiders and Bengals are playing some testy football, which could mean a lot for what’s to come from Jack Del Rio’s club this season. “I don’t back down from nobody and I’m not out there trying to start anything”.
A day later, it still seems miraculous that Jones wasn’t ejected on the spot. “I was just trying to block him, and he ended up on top of me and that happened”, Cooper told CSN Bay Area.
After the game, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said his team can improve their chippy ways, and that he knows who is going to be more physical after the whistle than others.
Pacman Jones has a history off the field incidents but has tried to clean up his image of late with the Cincinnati Bengals. “I understand why our offensive linemen went down there and took issue with it. I respect that”.
