Observers said the move was surprising, considering Microsoft – which owns Minecraft – recently announced the game would be coming to its virtual-reality device, the Hololens. In terms of power, Samsung smartphones run Gear VR, so there is little likelihood that the Xbox One lacks the juice to run an Oculus headset.

One of the biggest pieces of news to come out of the Oculus Connect 2 event in California this week was the announcement that Minecraft would officially be coming to Oculus Rift when it launches, and Oculus CTO John Carmack admitted on stage afterward that he had a hard time waiting until the announcement to talk about it.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to work directly with the Oculus team to bring ADR1FT to the Oculus Rift“, said Adam Orth, Creative Director of Three One Zero. Don’t expect that to happen any time soon. Speaking to Polygon, Oculus Rift’s Vice President of Product, Nate Mitchell, indicated that console support for the Rift was still some way away.

Phaser Lock Interactive LLC is an Austin-based VR-focused game company composed of industry veterans whose gaming pedigree stretches back to the days of the Playstation I and Super Nintendo systems.

However, Carmack made some humorous comments regarding the development of a VR Minecraft in an interview with PC Gamer, stating that he essentially coded the port entirely by himself without any kind of remuneration.

“Because of that, we’ve been laser focused on getting Windows in awesome shape”.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s Gear VR hits stores this fall, at a price that’s probably considerably less than either the Oculus Rift or PlayStation VR (both are rumored to have a final price of at least several hundreds of dollars).

And what about those who will be unsure where to start their VR experiencing?
