Well the man behind that throttling was Baylor offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery, and now the head coach at Tulsa, Montgomery has brought that explosive brand of offense with him to Golden Hurricane country. They look to take a giant leap forward on Saturday when they face the 16th-ranked Sooners (2-0) at Memorial Stadium.

The game appeared headed to blowout status when the Sooners led 31-10 and were driving for a late first-half score.

“We need to take this week and get better and prepare because it’s going to be a heck of a ride from here”, OU linebacker Eric Striker said. I think the belief part of it’s there. We’ve got to take them personally and challenge them.

Tulsa pass offense vs. OU pass defense – The potent Tulsa passing offense against an Oklahoma defense that gave up nearly 300 passing yards per game last season, 117th in the nation among FBS schools, but has shown marked improvement in this area so far this season. Fournette ran for 71 yards on the first play and piled up 169 by halftime before LSU eased off the gas pedal.

The Sooners finished with 773 yards of total offense, the most ever given up by a Tulsa team. There was also a photo of safety Hatari Byrd with his left arm raised and middle finger extended toward the crowd.

Tulsa (2-1) stuck with the Sooners for much of the game with Dane Evans throwing for 427 yards and four touchdowns and Keyarris Garrett catching 14 passes for 189 yards.

Both teams have already played an overtime game this year. Oklahoma’s Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon are off to solid starts for the Sooners, even though they haven’t been superstars behind their young, improving offensive line.

These two impact players are the leading candidates to cause matchup problems for OU, but it would be a shame to not mention running backs Zack Langer and D’Angelo Brewer. The redshirt freshman connected on 20-of-31 passes for 364 yards with one interception and rushed 24 times for 163 yards and three scores with one fumble. The Sooners rolled 60 yards to tie the game.

Now the Tulsa Golden Hurricane sport a record of 2-10, and have declared a corresponding slate of 5-7 against the spread.

Oklahoma got a little breathing room midway through the third quarter on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Mayfield to Jarvis Baxter to make it 38-24. The defense could struggle against Oklahoma in this one and odds are the Sooners will have no problems going above 33 points. Derrick, a senior, has a sack and five tackles this season.
