Los Angeles firefighters put out the fire before 7:30 a.m. in the 10900 block of Roebling Avenue and found the woman’s body inside, officials said.
Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott says the fire Monday morning occurred in a first-floor unit of a two-story apartment buildings. Members of the L.A. Fire Department were able to knock down the blaze in 15 minutes, but during their search, they found a woman dead at the scene. The cause of death was unknown.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s West Bureau detective division is investigating the fire, said LAPD officer Liliana Preciado. No other injuries were reported.
The victim’s boyfriend was named a person of interest in the investigation, according to Aareon Jefferson with the Police Department.
Cops originally said that the woman’s boyfriend was a person of interest in the case, but then they backed away from that statement.
The UCLA Daily Bruin described the deceased as a fourth year student who was studying psychology and Spanish. The identity of the woman was not immediately released.
