Sanjeev Khanna, former husband of Indrani Mukherjea who was detained on charges of killing Sheena Bora, being taken to be produced in a Mumbai court, yesterday. While seeking Khanna’s custody, police had contended in the remand plea that Indrani, her driver and Khanna abducted Sheena in a vehicle and took her to a forest in Pen tehsil where they strangulated her and burnt the body.

“The Mumbai Police questioning Indrani’s second husband Sanjeev Khanna have told a Kolkata court that he was involved not only in the murder of the media baron’s daughter Sheena Bora on April 24, 2012 but also with its planning”. She as well as Khanna have denied the charge.

Indrani and Peter Mukherjea are well known in India as top-level media executives.

Indrani Mukerjea, 43, is accused, along with her ex-husband and driver, of strangling Sheena Bora, dousing the body in petrol, setting it alight and burying the remains in a forest outside Mumbai in 2012. Not many friends know what was he up to during those years. “The prima facie evidence suggests this was the reason for the murder”.

“During his interrogation, he confessed to murder”.

Police had carried out a “panchnama” (initial observation) of the body and the inquest at the murder site, recorded statements of witnesses and made a diary entry, but no other subsequent procedures were followed.

A team of police, forensic experts and villagers had on Friday exhumed the skeletal remains after Dhene, a Police Patil, identified the exact spot.

“She (Indrani) told us that she came from a prosperous family in Assam”.

They said they have taken possession of Khanna’s passport, laptop and mobile phone and sought his custody on the ground that a detailed probe is required in the case.

All three have been charged with the killing of Sheena, Indrani’s daughter, setting her on fire and dumping her body in the Raigad forests.

The raging Sheena Bora murder case is turning shabbier and shabbier with every passing hour and grabbing headlines with one or the other freaky twist and turn.

A source from Mumbai Police said, “There is no shred of doubt that there has been dereliction of duty”.

If Sheena was really sitting on a huge amount of money, which she refused to part with, Peter should have been in the know.

Khanna had earlier claimed that he was sleeping when 24-year-old Sheena was murdered and found her dead in the vehicle.

Sanghvi said that Indrani wanted to become a media baroness and she said “absurd things”. Realise that the person trusted you much more than you deserved.”. “After a while, when we were persistent, we were told that she was sent to a rehab in Pune for a drinking problem”.

Blood and hair samples of Indrani and Mikhail Bora have been collected and sent to Forensic Science Laboratory. “Her step father molested her and her mother did little to protect her” Sanghi said to the New Delhi based News Channel. “And that too helped in their investigation into the murder”, the officer said.

The prime accused in the case, Indrani Mukherjee is married thrice.
