Normally, inserting the S Pen into its slot backwards will pose some resistance – thus, informing the user that the stylus is being inserted the wrong way. Now the reason why it gets stuck is because of the way the sensor inside the Silo is positioned. In our Galaxy Note (2011) Review you’ll see the following image. This time around, due to the new pop-out clicker on the pen, the entire thing is the same width as the slot meaning inserting it the wrong way is ridiculously easy.

The S-Pen sits flush with the bottom of the device, a new design choice from Samsung. It is said that some users of Reddit have noticed the same problem.

Less than a week after Samsung launched its Galaxy Note 5 in the US, a design flaw has just been discovered with its S Pen. As such, the S Pen action menu that pops up when you remove the stylus will not appear anymore.

Companies suggest users to go through the manual before using any product, but that is not an excuse for basic design flaws that could lead to inadvertent damages. It catches in between the end of the S Pen and the clicking mechanism on the stylus.

Samsung has also acknowledged the problem in the Galaxy Note 5 user manual (PDF), which states that, “When you insert the S Pen into the slot, insert the S Pen’s nib first”.

The flaw, which seems to affect all Galaxy Note 5 devices, means that if a user inserts their S Pen into the phone in the wrong direction, it could get stuck and cause the tablet’s features to malfunction.

On many accounts, the Galaxy Note is Samsung’s flagship phone, because it has features that even the iPhone 6 Plus doesn’t have.

Users have reported that when the stylus is then forcibly removed it can damage the S-Pen, the Note 5, or both. With this statement Samsung makes it look like it has no plans to address this issue, but only expects people not to do this. We’ve asked Samsung for its take on the issue and will update this post if we hear back.
