Members of the USA men’s volleyball team celebrate on the podium after winning the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup Japan 2015 at Yoyogi National Gymnasium First Gymnasium on September 22, 2015 in Tokyo.

Canada finished the World Cup with five wins and six losses. Unlike World League, which is held annually across several weeks and seeds teams, the World Cup is a 12-team round-robin tournament that takes place over the course of two weeks.

Canada will close out the tournament against Tunisia on Wednesday. “We lacked a bit of preparation – we would have liked to maybe do better against the stronger teams – but that will be for the future”. The top two teams qualified for the Olympics and joined Brazil, which has already secured a berth as the host country.

The United States won its first men’s volleyball World Cup in 30 years with a 25-20, 25-21, 17-25, 25-20 win over Argentina. “I know my team is better so, we’ll try to prepare as well as possible and be ready for qualification”, Iran coach Slobodan Kovac said in the post match news conference.

Michal Kubiak played a pivotal role in pulling Poland back into the game and Bartosz Kurek led his team with 18 points in the 24-26, 27-25, 25-21, 25-19 win.

The tournament is a qualification process for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
