“We took the momentum we got in second half of the LSU game”, said MSU quarterback Dak Prescott. “Now I think I am getting to the last step of my progression, checking the ball down and knowing when the defense is set up in a certain coverage for me to run the ball or when they don’t have a spot to open up those lanes for me”.
“I look at our two tailbacks and Ashton Shumpert goes out there for the first play of the game, but their rep difference is not a whole lot”, Mullen said. “And I say that not just in what he does on the field, but also off the field…”
“We make that kick at the end of the game, we still have the same problems”, Mullen said.
“He’s a program-changing player”.
With LSU trailing, 34-10, Harris relieved Anthony Jennings and threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes to Malachi Dupre for 31 yards and 30 yards to keep the Tigers in the game. After reviewing the LSU film, Prescott admitted there were a couple of times he should have run and not stayed in the pocket. His second attempt fell in Joe Morrow’s hands for a 37-yard touchdown to put Mississippi State up 48-13.
“I thought both of them played extremely well”, Mullen said. He followed that season up by rushing for 986 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. Staley finished 2 of 3 for 55 yards and a touchdown.
The most impressive score came as Fitzgerald evaded the rush, moved up to his left and on the run tossed a 49-yard pass to Gray down the seam. “That quarterback competition, as things keep going for those two guys”. Myles’ two catches for 58 yards ranked third behind Malik Dear and Donald Gray.
Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns while becoming the school’s career passing leader as the Bulldogs rolled past Northwestern State 62-13 Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Miss.Prescott completed 10 of 11 passes and also ran six times for 54 yards in less than three quarters of action against the FCS opponent. Even though Prescott remains a focal point of the Bulldogs’ running game, he acknowledged he has matured at the position and is more comfortable staying in the pocket and going through his reads.
