Belgium’s David Goffin reacts after winning a point during the first singles?match of the Davis Cup World Group semifinal against Argentina’s Federico Delbonis in Brussels, Friday, September 18, 2015.

It’s like 1904 all over again in the Davis Cup.

The first four games of the set featured tidy service holds from both sides to 2-2.

Earlier, Belgium’s No. 1 player David Goffin defeated Diego Schwartzman to draw Belgium level.

Darcis would survive a second set slump to eventually edge the world number 65, beating him, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(3). I would go and train and prepare on the clay to get ready for the final. For me, it’s really big. “He gave me the chance to finish the job”.

The final will be played November . 27-29.

He jumped to a 5-1 lead and earned four match points with a super lob that delighted his supporters. On the other hand, there was so little difference against Belgium – who have reached the final without a top 10 player – that if the tie had been at home on a different surface, Argentina might have won.

Switzerland, winners past year, were beaten by Belgium in the opening round in March when neither Federer nor Stan Wawrinka lined up for the Swiss.

“My idea was never to win it twice”.

Steve Darcis was obviously elated with the win, telling reporters afterward: “For our small country it’s pretty good”. “It was a great moment for us all”.

It was only the second Davis Cup doubles loss in 15 years for the 42-year-old Paes.

The 39th-ranked Mayer hit 24 aces to Darcis’ 1 and took all risks as he converted 2 of 13 breakpoints after hitting 81 winners and 77 unforced errors in 3 hours, 52 minutes.

The world number three sat out the doubles against the United States in Britain’s previous Emirates Arena contest, but that was after Ward put the hosts 2-0 up.

Mayer, ranked 39, had played almost eight hours of tennis on Friday and Saturday and visiting captain Daniel Orsanic opted to play 68th-ranked Schwartzman instead.

Murray told BBC Radio 5 live: “The O2 would obviously be a question mark for me if we were playing on the clay”.

Fabio Fognini sealed victory for Italy against Russian Federation in Irkutsk when he beat Teymuraz Gabashvili 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in Sunday’s first reverse singles.
