Hollande arrived, on Saturday in Tangiers, for a friendship and working visit to the Morocco at the invitation of King Mohammed VI.

Swedish officials said last month they hope to reach a judicial cooperation deal with Ecuador by the end of the year that would clear the way for Swedish prosecutors to question Assange.

During the summit talks held over the weekend in Tangiers during President Hollande’s two day official visit to Morocco, Paris and Rabat pledged to work together as their economic ambitions in Africa match up, especially in West Africa, where Morocco, which positions itself as the link between Africa and Europe, has already a strong foothold.

According to a joint declaration from the two countries, the training would promote “an Islam with the right balance” that conforms to “values of openness and tolerance” and “fully anchored in the values of the Republic and secularism”.

The training programme will “demonstrate that Islam is a religion of peace in France”, said Hollande. This is a strategy of integration, prevention and fighting against extremist tendencies.

Morocco and France, which will assume the presidency of the upcoming COP21 and COP22, call for seizing the occasion of the Paris and Marrakech conferences to speed up the transition towards a green global economy, reconciling legitimate aspirations for development with the pressing need for resources’ sustainability and the reduction of environmental risks.

France’s Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve announced in February that French imams would beencouraged to take civics lessons as part of anti-radicalisation efforts, while in June it was revealed that France has deported 40 foreign imams for “preaching hatred” in the past three years.

Counterterrorism and the fight against radicalization are on the top of the agenda.

The issues of security and terrorism were also at the menu of this visit, Holland said, voicing the willingness of both countries to further intensify their cooperation in this field.

The National Observatory Against Islamophobia said over 100 incidents have been reported to the police since the Charlie Hebdo attacks of January 7-9.
