Hey, remember Dale Purinton?
A former professional hockey player has been arrested in connection with a central New York burglary.
A fifth-round pick of the Rangers in 1995, Purinton played in 181 games with the Blueshirts between 1999 and 2004. According to police, the investigation has revealed the 38-year-old allegedly broke into a Utica, N.Y.-area residence and physically assaulted its sole occupant before fleeing the scene.
Wonder no more: Purinton was arrested by Oneida County police on Wednesday for Burglary 1st Degree, a Class-B Felony.
During the course of the investigation, the Criminal Investigation Unit developed information that Purinton may be staying with relatives in Otsego County, NY. Police tracked him down in the town of Laurens, where he was taken into custody and turned over to Oneida County sheriff’s deputies.
Purinton, collared without incident on August 19, was arraigned and held in Oneida County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
He’ll appear in court at a later date, the sherriff’s office said. As Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo notes, if you are required to take a mug shot, take it right.
On Thursday, Kerry Park Islanders owner Mark Osmond released a statement confirming Purinton had been released from his coaching job pending the outcome of the investigation.
