It was some time in the middle of last month when we brought you word that Facebook decided to revamp Notes in order to stir the hidden blogger in all of us, and it seems that their experimental makeover of Notes has proven to be a success. It’s probably been a while, but the company now wants to change that. If there’s a huge upside in developing Notes into a full-featured publishing platform, I don’t see it. Until Facebook’s own executives start using it, it’s likely to remain a curiosity.
Today Facebook is rolling out its first major update to Notes in a long time, essentially turning it into a blogging platform akin to Medium. However, you might also say the new Notes look a lot like Kinja since they both feature photos and text. This has prompted Facebook to announce its redesign as official, and the refreshed version of Notes is now available to all and sundry.
If you run a blog or you’re considering running a blog, the Facebook update gives you a reason to reconsider Notes – you’ll be able to format things a little more, and present content in an overall more modern way.
On Friday, the social network unveiled an updated version of the feature for writing longer form posts most users have forgotten years ago. And though the editing feature is exclusively web-based, the new Notes do appear on mobile as well.
