Android Auto will be replacing the Android mobile OS. This offer will be made available for select 2016 model year vehicles equipped with an eight inch MyLink system.

Chevrolet will be enabling Android Auto on the following cars; Spark, Cruze (Excludes Limited), Malibu (Excludes Limited), Camaro, Camaro Convertible, Silverado, Silverado HD, Impala, Volt, Corvette, Corvette Convertible, Colorado, Tahoe, Suburban.

Chevrolet is finally going to update its in vehicle smart system to be compatible with Android Auto. The company has not yet detailed equivalent rollout plans for Apple’s CarPlay tech. He also revealed that they are working with their dealers to make the software update as quick as possible.

Now we expect that there are some of you guys out there who might have some reservations about using these new systems like CarPlay or Android Auto.

The catch is, it will be around March 2016 when the update rolls out, first to models with the 8-inch MyLink center dashes, and then eventually to the ones with 7-inch variants. Once the new software is in place, drivers will be able to access Android Auto by plugging a compatible smartphone running Android 5.0 Lollipop (or better) into the MyLink system’s USB port. It is capable of navigation through Google Maps, Google Now and music streaming applications to name a few. For all this, you just need to plug in your handset to your vehicle.

Many are impressed at how the Chevrolet company is showing great dedication to outfit their cars with the latest in Android softwares and don’t mind the six-month wait to get it. The same goes for Apple phones, which will launch CarPlay instead. Chevrolet is also thinking on the same lines. He stated that all this has been achieved due to the hard work of Chevrolet’s engineering team. Google and Apple developed and designed the user interfaces of their respective apps, making sure that they meet users’ needs.

Should you ever switch from an Android to an iPhone, however, you will be able to utilize either operating systems just as easily.
