Toronto swept a three-game set at Yankee Stadium last weekend.

Even if, of course, it could have been even better.

The New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays opened a three-game series on Friday with everything on the line, and they finished it Sunday with nothing settled.

Bautista’s drive was Toronto’s first home run since Ryan Goins’ three-run shot in the second inning of Thursday’s 4-2 victory over Oakland. It’s two very competitive teams that have played hard against each other and pitched well.

Severino shut the Blue Jays down after the unfortunate third, but those three runs proved to be enough for Toronto thanks to Hutchison, whose lone mistake came on Ellsbury’s two-out homer in the sixth.

What’s new, he said, is that this year, Jays-Yankees games mean something for both clubs.

And if all that doesn’t do it for you, refer back to that message on the dry erase board and start over.

That’s five different teams over the next 12 days for three straight series on the road and two at home. After so many games without much of a payoff, he doesn’t want to miss anything now. He was 7 1/3 innings into the game before giving up a ground-rule double to Chase Headley that knocked him out of the game.

“Yeah I would think he’ll definitely be back”, said Gibbons.

The net effect of the ruling was on Severino’s ERA, which may be of concern to fantasy baseball geeks and DraftKings junkies, but not on the final score. “We hit some home runs in New York to win the games, Beltran hit it tonight to win it”. The Japanese right-hander struck out eight and allowed just five hits in his longest outing of the season and first complete game since June 28, 2014.

According to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, the plan all along was to call up Severino and add him to the rotation in August or September. They also allow just 2.6 walks per game, second-best in the AL.

RHP Michael Pineda (right forearm strain) allowed four hits and two runs in three innings in his rehabilitation assignment with Double-A Trento on Sunday.

Joe Girardi talked about winning the series by saying, “I thought we did a good job coming in here and winning a tough series on the road.” I have a newborn baby, who deserves the greater part of my attention. That’s baseball.

“Don’t get me wrong”, he said. That’s maturity. He is winless in his first two starts, having received a total of one run in support. The Blue Jays are the number one overall scoring offense in the AL, averaging 5.2 runs per game so far.

Toronto Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista, right, is met by teammate Josh… There were too many guys as it was; a matter exacerbated by the sterling performance of the team’s starting pitching since the beginning of July.

“It’s still aggravated and we’re running out of time”, said Gibbons. “We’re at home, which is good for us”. Finally. There’s no need to cover the discussion with half-defined terms, tangential points and bad jokes: The Blue Jays are the Blue Jays, diverse and determined, and that’s going just fine.

“I knew right away, as soon as I saw the pitch was high, I knew it was going to be a problem”, Severino said.

For the season, they are 8-4 vs. the Yankees, with seven games to go.
