Father Christmas will hopefully soon be reunited with Mrs Claus (Pic: Emojipedia) There will also be some new food-related emojis, some of which are surprisingly not in the list already.
Other additions now at the “candidate stage” of approval include a selfie-depicting emoji, duck, bat, Indiana Jones-style smiley face, dancing man, pregnant woman, and prince. Citing the “face with cowboy hat” emoji, it revealed that the character was accepted for compatibility with the emoji used in Yahoo Messenger.
The Unicode Consortium, the organisation that co-ordinated the development of Unicode, the industry standard for the representation of text, has accepted the new emojis as candidates for Unicode 9, an update which will be released in mid-2016.
An updated list of approved new emoji are expected to be released this time next year.
You can check out the full list of prospective emoji over on Emojipedia.
Once given the nod by the emoji police, Apple, Google and Microsoft will be able to give their own twist to the new emojis before pushing them live to users. However, with Sony Pictures winning the rights to make the first ever emoji movie, we hope we’ll see a lot of Emojis making an appearance in the coming years.
