Two houseboats were destroyed and another damaged in a weekend fire along the Columbia River west of Vancouver. The paper said there were no reported injuries. The marina and houseboats were located on the river, near Caterpillar Island.

Firefighters said they knew right away the location would be an issue for them.

“There were two fully involved floating homes, spreading to the third when we got here”.

Together with fire boats from Vancouver and Portland, more than 30 firefighters worked to put out the fire.

Three homes were damaged at Kadow’s Marina in Clark County, according to firefighters.

District officials on Facebook said their efforts were hampered by “slippery docks, limited water supply and heavy fire conditions…”

The Red Cross is helping those displaced by the fire.

An estimate on the ddamage estimate has not yet been determined.
