Worms Developer Team17 Assisting on Yooka-Laylee

“[This partnership] is probably more significant than either Team17 or Playtonic fully realise right now”. In the meantime, Playtonic will focus their efforts more on the game’s creative and design elements.

We sit down with writer Andy Robinson and composer Grant Kirkhope and talk to the pair about the crowdfunding success of the spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, and what’s in store for players looking forward to getting their hands on Yooka-Laylee.

Despite the wording and hinting that there could be a physical release of the game, Price is quick to reiterate that there are now no plans for a physical release for the game.

“The partnership will allow Playtonic to build on its hugely successful Kickstarter campaign – the biggest ever for a UK game studio – with additional resources designed to benefit development and add value to both existing Kickstarter backers and new fans”, Team17 explained. Weve been following their Kickstarter campaign with interest and are delighted to welcome them onto our label and into the Team17 family.

Playtonic is a new studio comprised largely of veteran developers who made their names during Rare’s heyday in the 90s – during which time they made classics such as Donkey Kong Country and Banjo Kazooie.

Yooka-Laylee’s kickstarter concluded with a total of £2,090,104 raised back June, smashing through all its potential stretch goals. Will you be picking up Yooka-Laylee when it is released?

The partnership allows Team17 to deal with the business side of things while Playtonic concentrates on the game itself.

Today though, Team17 and Playtonic Games have announced that Yooka-Laylee will be published by Team17 when it releases sometime during October 2016 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, PC, MAC and Linux platforms.
