Winona Ryder says ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel is happening

Fans of the ’80s cult classic Beetlejuice will be over the moon to hear that a long-awaited sequel has been confirmed.

Wynona Ryder recently shared that “Beetlejuice 2” is truly in the works, during her appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on August 11, 2015. Although the movie is almost three decades old, Ryder still receives attention from youngsters due to her portrayal of teen goth queen Lydia Deetz. The project will reportedly feature a number of returning actors from the original movie.

Tim Burton has mentioned that he wants to work on the sequel to Beetlejuice, with Michael Keaton adding that he’s interested in reprising his role as the “Ghost with the Most”.

“It must mean there’s something very sort of pure about it, in a weird way”, she said.

Winona Ryder has quite a lot on her plate right now, between an HBO miniseries called Show Me a Hero and a Netflix original series, Montauk, but it sounds like if Burton calls, she’ll be there.

“I think I can confirm it”, said the actress.

The film is a horror comedy about Barbara and Adam Maitland, who haunt their home after dying in a tragic, yet humorous, vehicle accident.

Even though the film has yet to receive the all-important greenlight from the studio, the fact that director Tim Burton has championed the sequel is, to some fans, the next best thing. I think there is now a better chance than ever… It does not seem like Davis and Baldwin will be coming back for the “Beetlejuice” sequel.

Keaton is also on record as saying if Burton was in, so was he. “I miss that character”, Burton said in a Variety report.

A script written by screenwriters Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows) and David Katzenberg is already in place.
