It’s an astounding number – Mad Men star Hamm has been nominated for an Emmy 15 times for his work on that show and as a guest star on other people’s shows.

Poehler’s organization, which focuses on encouraging intelligence and curiosity, has teamed up with the Television Academy and Twitter for the #SmartGirlsAsk campaign at this Sunday’s awards, and it’s already caught the attention of everyone from Scandal’s Katie Lowes to presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton. For the Best Actress in a Comedy category, it would be nice to see one of the Amys win: Amy Poehler for Parks and Recreation or Amy Schumer for Inside Amy Schumer. The show is among three to have won four Emmys for outstanding drama series, along with “Hill Street Blues“, “L.A. Law” and “The West Wing”. The voting process has changed this year, and so has show categorization (that’s why Orange Is the New Black is now a drama, even though last year it was a comedy). In 2014, the victor was Julianna Margulies from The Good Wife (CBS). A series from the major broadcast networks has not won in the category since Fox’s “24” in 2006. His was, quite frankly, the TV performance of the year.No actor on “Mad Man” ever has won an Emmy, yet the show is considered perhaps the best in the medium’s history.

Hamm is going up against Kyle Chandler (“Bloodline“), Jeff Daniels (“The Newsroom“), Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul“), Liev Schreiber (“Ray Donovan“), and Kevin Spacey (“House of Cards”).

With the series finishing last May, this is the concluding act for “Mad Men” at the Emmys. If Modern Family defies the odds and wins for a sixth year in a row, it will be the new champion.

HBO’s Washington political comedy “Veep“, and its tech series “Silicon Valley“, FX’s “Louie,”, NBC’s “Parks and Recreation“, and Netflix’s “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt“, are also in the running.

Two other first-timers round out the category: Anthony Anderson for Black-ish and Will Forte for The Last Man on Earth.

It’s a slightly underwhelming selection – which may well play into Jon Hamm’s hands.

Veteran actress and comedian Lily Tomlin is among the nominees for best actress in a comedy for “Grace and Frankie“.

Will win: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, “Veep”.

It seems like an exercise in repetition each time this time of year comes around. Fargo won in 2014.

It will compete with “Dancing with the Stars”, “Project Runway”, “So You Think You Can Dance”, “Top Chef” and “The Voice”.

Another “Mad Men” actor, Elisabeth Moss, is nominated for best lead actress in a drama.
