Two teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel have been deployed to Manipur’s Chandel district, where 20 villagers were swept away in landslides on Saturday.
A two-year-old was killed in Murshidabad district when a wall collapsed. A report from Nadia district said the world-famous ISKCON Temple in Mayapur was flooded.
The chief minister also advised people in affected areas to take shelter in relief camps to avoid “untoward incidents”.
Besides flood, the area was hit by a major storm last week in which many houses were damaged.
Meanwhile, the toll in the West Bengal floods today shot up to over 70 and affecting 36 lakh people.
“My chief secretary, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) mayor (Sovan Chatterjee), three journalists from Kolkata who came along with me and a few other state government officials will return with me”.
At least 47 municipalities, 210 blocks and 9,691 villages of the State have been affected by rising waters. In Odisha, seven districts namely Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jharsuguda and Deogarh were affected by the floods, the statement said.
The CM, who visited Ashoknagar in North 24-Parganas, said: “This moment of crisis should not be used for political purposes and individual gains… The state government is and will provide all the necessary assistance to those affected by this natural calamity”.
“If she [Banerjee] behaves this way, officers on the field will lose their confidence to take action”, said a senior official unwilling to be named.
Flood waters submerged parts of Imphal West district as well as Uripok, Sagolband, Lamphel, some portion of Kwairamban bazar yesterday, sources said, adding that water level on all major rivers in Manipur is, however, receding as rains stopped since yesterday.
According to TNN, the worst affected areas are Kandi in Murshidabad, Panskura in East Midnapore, Arambag in Hooghly, Udaynarayanpur in Howrah and Habra in North 24 Parg.
The flood situation in West Bengal remained grim on Monday as the barrages in the State and adjoining areas discharged more water. “However, the situation is likely to improve from tomorrow”, Rajib Banerjee said.

The Union Home Minister Singh spoke to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and reviewed the flood situation in the state. She is expected to visit more flood affected areas soon, officials said. The situation has improved overall, although the government needs to keep vigil. So you must stay in relief camps for two to three days.
