“South Park” has strictly been a household name after 19 years on the air, a critically acclaimed movie, and six different video games with a new one on the way. Many environments are still filled with placeholders, and doing various actions will crash the game and the title doesn’t feature any mechanics outside of running around and driving.
The title was in development by Buzz Monkey Software, whose game credits include porting games in the Tomb Raider series as well as Army of Two: The 40th Day. “Game is something I have never seen or heard of”.
The raw work in progress was allegedly discovered on a debug original Xbox procured in August by Nintendo Age forum moderator qixmaster, who posted a few screenshots and a single cutscene from the game. While the game was clearly in development, it provides some sense of where the developers were going here. They described it as a cross between GTA and Simpson’s Hit & Run, with players having free-roam of the world of South Park, though a lot of textures are missing.
Other less-complete sections showcase systems not yet built into the main game. Meddling with the camera in the alpha’s freeroam test mode allowed Happy Console Gamer to explore the world of South Park, showing that Buzz Monkey had managed to craft a large, albeit unfinished, replica of the town of South Park.
