Although it did not make much of an impression at the box office, 1999s tearjerker The Iron Giant has developed a strong cult following in the sixteen years since its release.

Vin Diesel took to Facebook today to hint at a possible forthcoming announcement from Warner Bros. about a sequel to The Iron Giant, one of the greatest animated films ever made. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in more than 500 movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network. On top of that, this wouldn’t be the first time the Guardians of the Galaxy star teased news regarding one of his films that turned out to be accurate.
“Imagine E.T.as a towering metal man, that’s the appeal of this enchanting animated feature” (
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times).
The original movie centres on a 9-year-old boy, Hogarth, who discovers a giant alien robot (Diesel) in the woods near his house.
Eli Marienthal, Harry Connick Jr. and Jennifer Aniston also lent their vocals to the Brad Bird-directed film which told the story of a young boy befriending a robot that has arrived on Earth from outer space. Because if you are teasing us, that’s about as cruel as the fake-out first ending of The Iron Giant.
In case you missed it, Warner Bros.’ iconic The Iron Giant from 1999 had a trailer for its remastered Signature Edition released over the past week.
