Video app Meerkat to allow live-streaming from GoPro cams

The Meerkat app will soon allow GoPro (NASDAQ:GPRO) streaming.

The new GoPro compatibility is available now to GoPro 3 users and will roll out to GoPro 4 users with the next app update, CNBC reports. Now, Meerkat fans can log on to see things from the real-time perspective of adventure seekers and even wildlife-in other words, the kind of footage that made GoPro the hottest camcorder around.

Live streams on Meerkat are about to get a lot more exciting.

Earlier this month, Meerkat introduced a feature called “Cameo”, which lets any viewer take control of a live stream. The company has yet to comment on whether or not the feature will eventually be rolled out on Android.

For Meerkat, integrating with GoPro is significant for a number of reasons. Initially, the feature will be available via Meerkat’s iOS app – users will be able to connect the GoPro camera to the iOS app and start streaming. The app is still locked in a dead heat with Twitter-owned rival Periscope. (Think: watching extreme sports live from your phone.).

Meerkat, the livestreaming app that was squashed under the weight that is Twitter’s own Periscope, has decided to branch beyond mobile devices by adding support for GoPro’s HERO action camera.
