An alarming new study has revealed the US young adults believe that hookahs and electronic cigarettes are safer than traditional cigarettes.

These products are becoming increasingly popular among young adults because manufacturers are starting to disguise the taste of tobacco using generally beloved flavors like bubble gum or green apple.

And the danger does not end there. America’s Food and Drug Administration needs to issue rules it proposed previous year and make them even stronger by banning flavors that appeal to youngsters. However, some experts on the matter have suggested that they only endanger an individual’s health when they are inhaled, and not when they are ingested. A new study finds that young adults under 25, including high school grads and college students, are more likely to rate hookah and e-cigarettes as safer than cigarettes, when compared to 25 to 34-year-olds.

The popularity of e-cigarettes has skyrocketed, but the verdict is still out as to how safe and effective they are in helping people to stop smoking.

The study had 2.800 subjects with the age between 18 and 34, smokers as well as non-smokers. They all had an age somewhere between 18 and 34.

Additionally, 32.7% of 18 to 24-year-olds believed hookah to be less risky than cigarettes, while 18.5% of 25 to 34-year-olds believed hookah to be less risky. It noted that the best results are obtained when e-cigarettes are used in combination with professional counseling and smoking-cessation medication.

While smoking in the UK is down, data still shows that almost 8 million people in the UK smoke.

Here is where a widespread yet unsubstantiated belief was born and is still held on a pedestal by many modern day hookah users – that this is a safe practice.

Hookah sessions, on the other hand, typically last anywhere between 20 and 80 minutes, meaning that hookah users puff somewhere in the range of 50 to 200 times over the course of a session.

The findings were published recently, in the journal Health Education & Behavior.
