A man is in custody for injuring three individuals near the University of Arkansas Fayetteville campus with a machete.

Pettey was in his campsite when the two victims confronted him saying he had to move his camp so as not to attract attention to the area, the arrest report states.

University spokesman Steve Voorhies says the attack happened around 7:15 Thursday night.

KTHV noted that campus police have identified the person responsible for the assault as Ashley Kyle Pettey, 36.

But they say one of those people may have been a friend of a victim and may not be injured.

One of the victims was in critical condition, according to a release.

University police Capt. Matt Mills said that Pettey was also injured in the incident, adding that he has been treated at an area hospital and is now under arrest, according to KRMG. “It looked like he had a towel or a shirt tied around his neck”. Police arrested a 36-year-old homeless man who used a machete to slash the necks and arm of two other homeless campers.
