“I have a friend [Casey Powell] and her grandmother suffers from dementia and her mother [Sandy Powell] is her primary caregiver”.



“For the most part, she does know who I am… we still go through the phases of I don’t know who is talking to me on the phone”, said Hunter, adding that even when visiting her mother, her mom recognizes certain family members automatically and others it takes her a while.

In addition to the walk, Hunter said her team is holding a fundraiser, which will be a spin class on October 11 from 3-5 p.m.at Edge Fitness on Houston Lake Road in Warner Robins. Although she can no longer help her grandfather, she is happy that she is able to help others. “He spent the remainder of his years in a nursing facility”. But, many new researchers have come up showing positive signs of the disease in children less than ten years of age. They learned about Alzheimer’s disease and how to get involved with this critical cause, from advocacy opportunities, clinical studies and support programs and services.

Colucy’s mother, like millions of others, had Alzheimer’s Disease, and on Sunday, Colucy joined almost 150 people for the third annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Mineral Springs Park in Owatonna.

The event was emceed by local radio personality Doug Sokolowski.

The brief ceremony will include a representative of each flower color who will share some of their story dealing with Alzheimer’s.

Jennifer Kirkland, whose great-grandfather, Earl Henderson, also had Alzheimer’s, is in her first year as a volunteer with the walk, set for Saturday at Atlantic Station. “The Act’s focus on pay for success highlights that we need not only more research but better research, research that changes the lives of people living with dementia today and that reduces or eliminates the risk of people having to live with dementia in the future”. Organizers of the Shelby County Walk to End Alzheimer’s are hoping for a record turnout on Courthouse Square this coming Saturday.

The Alzheimer’s Association is hosting a walk to end Alzheimer’s.

U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., on Tuesday announced support for legislation to create prize-based incentives that encourage more public-private collaboration in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease and other causes of dementia. “Our advocates work closely with his office and appreciate Senator Wicker’s introduction of the innovative EUREKA Act and its goal of advancing research breakthroughs for Alzheimer’s disease”.
