This incident comes just 8 days after a player at San Antonio’s John Jay High School was ejected for blindsiding a referee at a game in Marble Falls.

Cardenas’ on-field punishment is more than the standard five-game minimum suspension for this type of offense, listed in the TAPPS athletic regulations.

The incident, which occurred in the third quarter of St. Anthony’s 21-0 loss in the afternoon game, was captured on video.

Although this incident wasn’t as gruesome as the one a week ago, when two players torpedoed themselves into a defenseless referee, it did result in the player being ejected.

St. Anthony officials were not available for comment Sunday. The school district, UIL and Marble Falls police have been investigating. In the aftermath, one official looked like he was going up to St. Anthony and telling them something, and senior Zeke Cardenas wasn’t a fan of what he had to say. The first player ran into the back of the referee and knocked him down.

The players are seen talking with that referee, then he throws yet another flag.

Earlier in the broadcast, the announcers said both teams were having a hard time getting a play off without a flag. No. 80 was taking a shotgun snap from center.
