According to Business Insider, Musk also said that Model X will also have the Ludicrous Mode, but being of a heavier built, will have a slower speed, through retaining the possible title of being “the fastest SUV on planet Earth”.
With their own lithium-ion batteries and electronic controls, these new fuses will check power delivery thousands of times per second, allowing the batteries to maximize the energy routed to the motors. Unlike regular dumb fuses that burn out at a general range of current that might be lower than necessary, this “smart” fuse monitors the current every millisecond so it knows precisely when it needs to cut out. For existing P85D owners, the pack electronics upgrade needed for Ludicrous Mode will cost $5k for the next six months, plus an installation labor fee.
This upgrade has been coupled with an upgrade to the primary battery pack contractor, which uses Inconel (a super alloy, which is corrosion and oxidation resistant) in place of steel.
All of this is just speculation of course, and as we said above, Tesla is expected to give official information about the vehicle at their upcoming press conference, so those who’re interested in finding out what the Model X is going to offer for them should pay attention.
Auto Express expects the Tesla Model 3 EV “to have a level of performance that would at least match BMW’s M3 and M4 supercars”. Tesla Motors has already launched their Model S in the Chinese market and have used a lot of resources in the electric vehicle segment for Chinese consumers.
Earlier we discussed the power, performance and range upgrades for Tesla Model S and additionally, Tesla Motors have revealed some more interesting updates. It’ll be joined by the smaller, cheaper Tesla Model 3 in just over two years, with a starting price pencilled in for around £22,700.
Tesla didn’t spare any more details, but the original Roadster’s chassis was sourced from Lotus and there’s not much indication that the new model should follow the original version’s path.
Mr Musk also said the company would produce a new version of its Roadster sports auto in about four years. “In order to make the X great, we had to go to the point where maybe 30% of the parts are in common between the S and the X”.
