And unlike those honorary degrees given to so many celebrities, Williams actually hit the books and earned a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Indiana University.
In a statement to the university, Venus said “I’ve learned so much”.
INDY Star reported that Venus has already previously taken up and finished an associate degree in fashion design from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 2007.
Williams, of course, is best known for tennis. Williams owns four Olympic medals, all gold – doubles with Serena in 2000, 2008 and 2012 and singles in 2000. Williams, now in the second round at the U.S. Open, picked up her diploma in person at the Richmond, Ind. campus in August, while on her way to a tournament in Cincinnati.
The university itself has an agreement with both the ATP and the Women’s Tennis Benefit Association, and will enable full-time players achieve their education goals. “Venus was instrumental in connecting IU East and the WTA in this highly valued partnership, and we are very grateful for this”.
While her rivals were dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s on their preparations for the year’s final major, Venus Williams was adding the finishing touches to one of her many off-court endeavors. “I love being a Red Wolf”.
The sports star enrolled in the college’s online program in 2011, and last month she stopped by the school’s campus to pick up her degree in Business Administration! “I believe I’ll be a real asset for the team, were I to make it. I’ll try to put my best foot forward”.
