Tech giant launches G9198 flip phone two touchscreens — Samsung

Samsung has been very busy over the last week with the launch of its new models phablet, Galaxy Note 5 Galaxy S6 Edge +, but this is not all that the Korean giant has been producing during this period.

In terms of the specifications, this phone sports a dual 3.9-inch Super AMOLED display screen with a 1280 x 768 pixel resolution. Under the hood, there is a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset that has a 1.8GHz hexa-core CPU and 2GB of RAM. The smartphone has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, A-GPS, NFC and a microUSB port with USB OTG support.

Now, as far as availability and pricing go, Samsung will release G9198 in China in August, but there is no word yet on how much it will cost when it goes on sale or whether it will reach international markets later down the road.

Sammy has also unveiled a new handset exclusively available for the Chinese market, and given the preferences of this sector, it’s not a surprise that the device is actually a flip phone. However, instead of the usual midrange or entry level specs included in flip phones, this one gets some meaty specs and features that could even match a traditional touch screen smartphone today.

The launch of a Samsung flip phone does not come as a surprise, as rumors of the handset have been surfacing throughout the market for quite some time. Also on offer is 16GB internal memory, which can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card. To top it off, the device also comes with heart-rate monitor and it supports dual-SIM.

The clamshell draws power from a 2,020 mAh battery (which according to Samsung should provide up to 189 hours of standby time). Still, it certainly trumps LG’s low-end offering, the diminutive Wine Smart.

It’s highly unlikely that Samsung will bring this device outside of China.

Flip phones may have lost their luster, but they still have a strong following in many Asian countries, including China.
