Reforms should include addressing behind-the-border barriers, such as business registration procedures, the council said, adding that worldwide trade negotiations alone will not be able to fix them.
“The private sector is supporting the establishment of a network of experts from the financial industry, multilateral institutions and government to build credit information systems allowing more owners of small businesses to use their transaction records in obtaining loans”, Abac said in a statement.
Opening and facilitating trade and investments in the services sector have significantly benefited micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) seeking to enter global markets, it noted.
Abac has also expressed the intention of the private sectors in actively collaborating with these initiatives under the CAP.
This has led to lower exports and higher prices for consumers, he said.
China has been locked in a long standing maritime dispute with the Philippines including Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Japan, which are all member-economies of Apec.
India’s renewed interest in APEC was clear after the joint statement between USA president Barack Obama and prime minister, Narendra Modi in January, where the U.S. promised to support India’s membership.
A memorandum of understanding on the contribution was signed that day in Cebu by officials from Taiwan and the APEC Secretariat in Singapore, which administers member projects that put the policy directives of the region’s leaders and ministers into action, as the Third APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM3) was held in the Philippine city.

This private sector body presents recommendations to APEC Leaders in an annual dialogue and advises APEC officials on business sector priorities and concerns.
This year, only a handful of governments have sent ministers to represent them at the forum.
The Chair of the ABAC comes from the economy that is hosting the APEC and therefore changes annually.
