Two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash has kept busy ever since he retired from the game six months ago-working as the GM of Team Canada’s hoops program and mentoring younger ballers-and now he’s found his way back into the L.

Stein says that Nash, who was not planning on becoming a coach after announcing his retirement earlier this year, has been pursued aggressively by Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and team president Rick Welts.

Instead, Nash will join the Warriors as a part-time player development consultant according to ESPN.

For most of his career, Steve Nash has been a divisional opponent. It won’t be long before we hear some pretty epic stories about the shooting contests between Kerr, Nash, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson after Warriors practices. ESPN.com reported in March that the Cleveland Cavaliers – at the behest of Cavs general manager David Griffin and former Cavs exec Raja Bell, also former Nash colleagues in Phoenix – likewise tried last season to persuade Nash to push for a buyout from the Lakers that would allow him to team up with LeBron James in Cleveland as a third point guard. As recently as June, the Dallas Mavericks were trying to reunite Nash with Dirk Nowitzki in a similar role, but Nash was adamant about playing for the Lakers if he were to return as a player.

“He’s getting closer to where I was, in that he’s going to evolve more into that manipulating defenses and thinking one or two plays ahead, because he was an undersized two for a large part of his life”, Nash told the Toronto Star in January. Thus, Nash was forced to sit out the entire season, his last under contract to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Golden State Warriors are coming off their first championship in 40 years and looking to defend it with a full squad throughout the organization.
