Brookstein objected to the trending hashtag #ShoutYourAbortion, which aimed to reverse the narrative of shame and silence over abortions after a bill to defund Planned Parenthood for one year passed in the senate this month.
– Women took to social media on Monday in an attempt to de-stigmatize abortion by sharing their stories and using the hashtag #ShoutYourAbortion.
According to The Independent, 1 in 3 women have an abortion, proving that these services (as well as sex education and family planning advice) are still very much needed.

There is also vocal opposition from those who are anti-abortion, some social media users likening abortion to murder.
