Although this particular instance is not one Malcolm sees every day, she is used to seeing seals along the coast all the time.
Malcolm said to Sydney Morning Herald said that she was taking the images while enjoying the view of some awesome whales coming out of the water.
While capturing photos, Malcolm saw some odd activity on the water; however, she wasn’t that sure about the creature.
While photographing whales off the coast of Eden, Australia, a photographer captured a rare and surprising occurrence of a seal riding on the back of a humpback whale.
Malcolm said that the whale may have dived for food and when it returned the seal happened to on top of it. People are asking about the authenticity of the image and the photographer says that she has kept the proof in her memory card.
But apparently the seal got far more than he bargained for-in the best possible way-because of the way that humpback whale’s feed.
“Humpbacks force fish into very tight bait balls, that means everyone can dart through the inside or the middle – anything that makes it easier to catch fish, seals will be involved”, explains Geoff Ross, who is a whale expert with the (New South Wales) National Parks and Wildlife department.
