Sony SmartBand 2 Gets Official

The SmartBand 2, which will go on sale later this year, has a few new tricks compared with last year’s model, including a heart rate sensor and iPhone compatibility.

Its information is sent to the Lifelog smartphone application (for Android or iOS) as before, but it has also been updated to be able to read the heart rate data and therefore better gauge overall fitness, excitement and stress levels.

Unlike the SmartBand Talk with its 1.4-inch e-paper display, the SmartBand 2 has no screen and instead relies on vibrations and LEDs to get its messages across.

The SmartBand 2 is a fitness tracker first and foremost, with a skinny 9.5mm and super-lightweight 25g design.

Sony has just announced its new fitness wearable, the SmartBand 2, which comes with a range of sensors that will apparently make it easier for us to keep an eye on our health.

All the data is automatically logged in Sony’s Lifelog app, which Sony claims is “popular”, but we’re not totally convinced. There’s also sleep tracking, with automatic sleep detection, and a smart alarm. You can also use the band to play, pause or skip through music tracks playing through a phone or tablet.

To top it all off the Smartband 2 has a five day battery life, is waterproof up to three metres, and a core that can be removed and placed into one of four interchangeable coloured straps.

You can also use the wearable safely while swimming as it is IP68 certified, which means it is can withstand submersion in water up to 3 meters for 30 minutes and is dust-protected.

The Sony SmartBand 2 will launch in 60 countries next month and the device will be available for €119, you can find out more details at the link below. It charges via micro USB, too, so you don’t need to worry about having another cable with you in case it runs out of juice. They’re made out of silicon rubber and come in black, white, pink, and indigo colors.
