Snapchat’s New Update Will Help Conserve Your Data

A sneakily hidden feature in today’s Snapchat update offers a “trophy case” for achievements you’ve unlocked using the app. When Travel Mode is enabled, all snaps have to be tapped to load.

Snapchat is well aware of how much data it can consume.

Are you seeing any different Snapchat trophies in your trophy case? There’s now an icon on the top right of the camera screen (after you’ve taken a photo or video) where you pick from the traditional emoji we’re all familiar with – no special Snapchat ones yet.

Tens of millions of users means Snapchat used more mobile data in March than every app except YouTube and Facebook during peak periods in North America, the network equipment company Sandvine said. As Snapchat’s data usage doubled this winter because of new features, users increased the amount of time they spent accessing the app over Wi-Fi instead, according to data from the tracking firm Mobidia.

Snapchat added a new setting that prevent videos and streams from automatically downloading on users’ smartphones. You’ve always been able to do this by going into each individual snap you’ve posted and clicking on the little eye icon, but now, it’s even easier. And then toggle on “Travel Mode”. It lets you add as many emojis as you want to snap.

The update also introduces something Snapchat is calling Sticker Picker which allows users to place an unlimited number of emoji on their snaps and in any fashion.

Just go into Discover and tap on your Snapchat Story.
