‘Sherlock Holmes 3′ Still In Development

It may be, however, that we’re reaching a saturation point with Sherlock Holmes.

IGN spoke with Lionel Wigram, who produced the first two films in the series, and asked if a third installment is in the pipeline. Sherlock Holmes film franchise is gearing up as well. According to him, they are now trying to put a script together to get another sequel on its feel. “So we’re working on that – it’s quite hard to do”.

He also added that both Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law were, “very, very interested” in reprising their roles. While working on a script is a far cry from a confirmed film, fans will be happy to see that the project is on their minds.

It has been nearly four years since the latest of Guy Ritchie’s film adaptation of Sherlock Holmes premiered and while there have been talks of a third movie to round out the franchise, the news about its development has since been scarce.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” has had a rather cliffhanger ending where everyone assumed that the sleuth is dead after falling into a raging waterfall with his opponent, Professor Moriarty, but then, Dr. Watson received a parcel from Holmes and the last part of the film showed the detective sitting on the couch in his camouflage.

Unlike the original story by Arthur Conan Doyle, Watson was present when Sherlock fell which will require the writers to come up with a logical explanation on how he survived.

Well, both the first and second films made pretty much the exact same amount of money worldwide, but that said, a lot has changed for RDJ since “Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows” came out in 2011, and the global marketplace where he shines has only grown more lucrative, which I’m sure WB is more than aware of.

We love the Cumberbatch and everything, but as shirtless Sherlocks go, nobody beats Robert Downey, Jr.in fight club condition.
