Samsung’s SM-G9198 Is The World’s Most Powerful Flip Phone With Snapdragon 808

Samsung’s latest attempt to take advantage of a set of consumers impressed by the folder design in phones could turn out to be successful.

The Samsung G9198 is essentially a dual-screen flip smartphone with two 3.9-inch WXGA (1280×768 pixels) Super AMOLED display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

Can a flip-phone actually help Samsung combat its counterparts in China such as Huawei, Xiaomi and Lenovo?

Samsung has unveiled a new Android powered flip phone, the SM-G9198. The Korean competitor also launched the LG Ice Cream Sandwich as its first 4G LTE-supporting flip phone back in January this year. The website listing reveals that the handset supports China Mobile or China Unicom 4G networks. A powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset and 2 GB of RAM run the phone.

The smartphone market is abuzz following the launch of the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus on August 13.

There is 16GB of inbuilt storage on the Samsung SM-G9198 flip phone while it supports expandable storage up to 128GB (via microSD card).

While Samsung is relying on its new Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ to help reverse a falling phone sales trend, they’re not the only answers the company has. The flip phone sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, while there is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera also on board.

The clamshell draws power from a 2,020 mAh battery (which according to Samsung should provide up to 189 hours of standby time). The smartphone has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, A-GPS, NFC and a microUSB port with USB OTG support. It features a T9 keyboard alongside featuring dual touchscreens.

It’s highly unlikely that Samsung will be offering the phone outside the confines of China, as in the Western world clamshells have fallen out of fashion.
