Samsung says that their Ultra HD Blu-ray player is capable of providing four times the resolution and 64 times higher colour expression compared to standard Blu-ray player.
In the IFA showcase in Berlin, the Korean company emphasized the fact that while there are already various UHD (4K) TVs and displays in the market, UHD resolution content or videos are more hard to come by.
However, the product also gives a Wi-Fi enabled feature along with a USB port designed in front of the device and which can be easily connected with company’s new SmartThings hub.
The device also supports 4K streaming; so, people can stream 4k services from Netflix, which offers 4K streaming shows like House of Cards, Breaking Bad, and The Blacklist for $12 per month. To flesh out the UHD player’s initial library of content, 20th Century Fox will provide a catalog of current and classic movies from its label.
Samsung has gone ahead and unveiled what they claim to be the world’s first 4K Blu-ray player at this year’s IFA consumer electronics conference in Berlin this week, according to reporting from Arstechnica and other sources. Considering just how good conventional HD Blu-ray looks, particularly when upscaled on a 4K TV, we can only imagine the awesomeness in store for viewers who try the first 4K Blu-ray discs on this new Samsung player.
It is expected that new Samsung UBD-K8500 will be available in the Europe and the U.S. by early 2016.
Back in March the Blu-ray Disc Association greenlit the new Ultra-HD disc specification which have capacities of 66GB on double-layer and 100GB on triple-layer discs.
