The official release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow is just around the corner, but we don’t expect many handset makers to be able to offer the new OS as update this year.
Adding to this list is AOSP Android 5.1.1 Lollipop custom ROM.
To be more specific – the model now getting the update is SM-G800R4. This new feature is called Reactivation Lock and it should also survive a “factory reset”, which means that your Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 devices should stay safe if you lose it or it gets stolen.
The Lock Screen in Android 5.1.1 now supports notifications control.
According to SamMobile, the new firmware version will change from G925FXXU2COH2 to G925FXXU3COI6, which suggests that it will bring major new features and improvements into the mix. The firmware version for the new Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 update is T337VVRU3BOH2.
Australian carriers Telstra and Optus have already confirmed their plans of rolling out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to their version of the Galaxy Note 4 sometime in October.
In an article, Christian Today stated that there is still no definite relase date for Android Marshmallow, but then Google had announced a big event that will be held in San Francisco on September 29. Undoubtedly, the upcoming Nexus devices will come running on the latest Android OS straight out of the box. However, until that happens, we would have to rely on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The updated app will also include compatibility with non-Samsung Android devices.
Furthermore, Gospel Herald said in their report that it is possible that Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge owners might have to wait until early 2016 for their devices to receive the update.
There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to which carriers release updates for their Android updates first, and once you stray outside of the shallow waters of flagship smartphones, things start to get really inconsistent.
