If you’re looking to replace your current hard drive or SSD with a better option, then you absolutely have to check out Samsung’s 950 Pro, a new SSD that’s so fast it leaves all competitors in the dust. Users who do video production or rendering would also benefit from the mitigation of the storage bottleneck.
Created to meet the needs of high-performance consumer and business laptops and PCs, this SSD will offer users improved performance and power saving. The Samsung 950 PRO SSD is the company’s first such mainstream offering to have both V-NAND and NVMe combined on a deceptively small M.2 PCI Express device. Instead of the traditional 2.5-inch SATA interface, it’ll rely on the compact M.2 2280 form factor and PCIe 3.0 x4 interface.
To date, a number of SSDs still use the older AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) technology. The SSD 950 Pro is slated to arrive in stores in October.
Samsung claims a massive random datarate of 300,000 IOPS (read) and 110000 IOPS (write) on the $350 512GB version of the SSD.
The third generation of V-NAND from Samsung means that we’ll be seeing a few new products by 2016.
It also features Samsung’s second generation MLC V-NAND 32-layer 128Gb die with UBX controller and magician software, and comes with AES 256-bit Full Disk Encryption to protect data and Dynamic Thermal Guard, which can safeguard the device from warm temperatures.
“The 850 Pro will continue to be their flagship product, but upgraded with the 3rd generation V-NAND to increase capacity from a maximum of 2TB to 4TB in a 2.5” form-factor. For more information, please visit www.samsung.com/950PRO.
