“It seems hard for people to actually hear English and understand it”, a frustrated Carson said.
“If people listened to that interview, they’ll notice that I said that anybody regardless of their religion or affiliation, if they embrace American values and they place the Constituion at the top level, then I’m supportive of them”, Carson said.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says Americans agree with fellow candidate Ben Carson’s belief that a Muslim shouldn’t win the presidency. Ted Cruz have pointed out, Article VI of the Constitution states: “no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States”, which Carson has not denied.
In a post on Facebook on Monday night, Carson outlined his position, though he included the requirement that a Muslim candidate would have to disavow Sharia law in order to get his support. “I’m not going to advocate you being the president”, Carson said. Trump failed to discourage a supporter who called Muslims a “problem” in the US and who suggested getting rid of them, in addition to incorrectly calling President Barack Obama a Muslim.
On NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Mr. Carson was asked if a president’s faith should matter to voters.
A day after launching his presidential exploratory committee in March, Carson said in a CNN interview that homosexuality is “absolutely” a choice.
HANNITY: “Was that what you were thinking in your mind when you were answering the question, in other words, the way Muslim theocracies now operate?” “People want to be politically correct, but there have been difficulties”.
The 2016 presidential hopeful, however, left a little wiggle room, saying that if the Muslim who was interested in running for office “publicly rejected all the tenets of Shariah and lived a life consistent with that”, then he “wouldn’t have any problem”.
I invite Carson to consider a case study of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the oldest Muslim organization in the United States. “We know he’s not even an American“.
“You know, Ben was saying there are difficulties”, he said.
He was then asked if he believes Islam is consistent with the Constitution.
One of the latest polls, run by CNN/ORC, shows Mr Carson has slipped into third place in the Republican race, trailing former Hewlett-Packard chief Carly Fiorina and Mr Trump, who has consistently remained ahead of the pack.
