“We have got a number of people out there looking”, Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn said, adding that the lion is still at large, ABC News reported. Flynn said officers searched the area for the animal without success, and have yet to confirm a lion is present in the area.
Two game wardens from the Department of Natural Resources checked the video and confirmed that it is indeed a mountain lion. Flynn says it was “theoretically possible” a wild cat has made its way south from northern Wisconsin.
Police in Milwaukee are investigating numerous reports of a lion walking around parts of the city. Each time a call is received, officers are sent to investigate and have found nothing. It’s been the talk of the town and the web lately, even earning its own Twitter hashtag: #MKElion.
The woman who shot the video planned to grill out on Tuesday evening – but with a baseball bat nearby – just in case. “To me, it looks pretty much like a mountain lion or a cougar to me”, Theresa Donarski said.
The Nolens’ daughter shot video of the wandering cat, while the couple called their neighbors to warn them of the encroaching beast.
“Yeah, right, sure, in my yard, ‘” neighbor Kelly Brooks said. They did see some evidence of large paw prints in Brooks’ backyard, but there’s no telling yet if those paw prints belong to a lion or to a large house cat.
“I was afraid to move”, Annie Nolan, who believes she might have seen the lion, told WKOW-TV.
Police were also in a separate neighborhood on the north side after getting reports of another possible sighting on Tuesday morning.
