The incident took place on Wednesday evening in Raleigh, North Carolina.



The police officer responded to a call to help a man who was hanging over the side of a bridge on Wednesday just after 7pm local time in North Carolina, ABC7 reports.

But just after 7 p.m. he was at the Raleigh Police Southwest District Office when he and other officers got the call that a man was sitting over the bridge railing at I-440 and Wade Avenue.

After the officer spent a few minutes talking with the man, he agreed to come back over the bridge rail.

‘He got a big old Dan Hicks bear hug, whether he wanted it or not, ‘ officer Hicks told WRAL-TV.

It is at this moment that the officer pulls the man into a hug and the two stand together for several seconds before the officer guides the man back to a auto. WTVD Hicks have the man a helping hand.

The interaction was recorded on surveillance footage, and Hicks had no idea he would get recognition for it. Hicks wasn’t aware of that, but said he was happy there was a positive story to share. Obviously, the man was in distress and needed help.
