Police in Utah arrested a 32-year-old man on Saturday for the fatal shooting of three people, including a 2-year-old girl, who shared his northwest Salt Lake City home.

Police on Saturday identified the victims as Heike Poike, 50, Lyric Poike, 2 months old, and Dakota Smith, 28.

Authorities say Tran lived in the basement and allowed the victims to live on the main floor.

Tran lived in the basement of the home on Sir Philip Drive, in Salt Lake City where the victims bodies were found.

According to police, the bodies were discovered Friday after officers looking for the family of a boy who hadn’t been picked up from school located the crime scene.

The boy is now with family.

On Friday, police were notified around 2pm by the school after they tried contacting the boy’s family after he had not been collected by his grandmother.

They then discovered the three bodies, Chipping said. Consuelo Garcia told the Deseret News (http://bit.ly/1V3UsOE ) that she grew up with the baby’s mother and thought of Heike Poike as a mother.

McGowan says the back door of the child’s home was wide open when officers arrived.

Chipping said a medical examiner is going to perform an autopsy and that they would glean any information to determine the identity of the male.

Once inside, they discovered three victims who had gunshot wounds along with the suspect. The 8-year-old boy had not been picked up from Escalante Elementary School at the expected time, causing school officials to notify police after being unable to reach family members.

“She was kind and thoughtful”.

“Nobody deserves to die like this”, she said. According to some neighbors, Tran was seen wearing only a sweatshirt and boxers when he was taken into custody, and one neighbor said he drove a auto into his mailbox 3 weeks prior. Tran is charged with aggravated murder and was being held at Salt Lake Metro Jail Saturday, according to jail records.
